[Final Impression] Tasogare Otome x Oppai & Aquarion LOVE

Happy or sad, it's for you to judge but I absolutely love this.

Warning! Nearly 1400 words ahead, and this is probably the longest single review I’ve ever written. You better be prepared.

At first I was thinking about making separate Final Impression reviews for each show but the I realized how similar both show were, especially at the end of each series. Both series sported a sad-happy setting, occasional fun and cute moments between serious dramas as well as the presence of strong vanilla flavour throughout the entire show. Every episode finished made me feel like want to see the next one immediately and waiting a week for a new one was almost unbearable.

For Tasogare Otome x Amnesia, it might be far from heart-warming for some but for me the occasional cute and funny moments inside were enough to warm my heart and make me smile. I was like that until halfway through of the series, of which beyond that it slowly entered the serious plot that some people ended up abandoning it but for me it was a serious story done right. I pity those who abandoned it though for they just missed the awesome ending in the finale (ep. 12).

I wish Yuuko could make that “Agiri-san’s face” more often though..

Parting from your loved ones is a painful thing to face and I somehow understand how Teiichi and Yuuko feel about that. For me it was like seeing your loved ones dying or something like that and to be honest at one point I felt like I have experienced similar thing myself though I can’t really remember the details (I probably have sealed that memories anyway). After making up to their “loss of time” with the short remaining time they have, those two could not help but to face to painful moment anyway.

Spending the little amount of time left by going on a date in the school ground.

It’s like what I’ve expected before where once Yuuko have no more regrets in this world that means she would no longer be able to stay in this world anymore. She was the first one to realize this as she gradually losing the ability to make physical contact with ‘worldly’ objects but she kept hiding it from Teiichi until recently. I cried a lot seeing those two spending their last time together and I thought everything was over with Yuuko disappeared since there’s no way she could return, right?

Beautiful farewell.

However knowing the pattern in this show where there’s always unexpected stuff going to appear, I patiently waited until the last bit, hoping for the better ending though I nearly lost my hope in the last minute. Then miracle happened right when Teiichi already made up his mind to forget about Yuuko. I would not reveal the details but enough with me saying the ending was beautiful , completely made me forget about all the sadness that happened in the middle of this episode.

Happy or sad, it’s for you to judge but I absolutely love this.

For me I’d give this show a 9.5/10 because I had  very little complain about it, which means I did complain ONCE (just ONCE) back then but I already forgot which episode it was because everything that comes after that was awesome enough to make me forget. Other than that some episodes especially the ones that ended with Kirie saw the “Shadow Yuuko” felt like not continued by the next one. Overall it was good and to end this part let me show you the rest of Yuuko-san’s cute moments in this episode:

Now moving to Aquarion EVOL (or its new name in the anime itself, Aquarion LOVE), the anime that has made me feel ‘moved’ several times because of some ‘moving’ episodes. Now I could not forgive myself for putting this series on hold for too long, nearly 5 weeks mainly because of the bad first impression with the episode 1+2. However as I caught up with the missed episode and since episode 06 I never looked back in it remained as my top 5 priority watchlist until it’s finale with the episode 26.

Hanazawa-san… I mean Zessica was trapped in the Skyrim world, or more specifically in Blackreach, with most of her important information exposed.

Just like Tasogare Otome x Amnesia, Aquarion EVOL was also very touching and the end was “everybody’s happy” though it’s a pity that in the middle of the series some students in the academy were killed during the invasion from the other world. Again, just like in the other anime I mentioned here (Tasogare Otome x Amnesia) the ending was unexpected, or rather had an unexpected twist. I always thought that Mikono’s “connecting/uniting” power would one day ‘merge’ Amata and Kagura into one person again but then I’m happy that they just stay that way.

Well Kagura I don’t want you to get Mikono but you can have Zessica.

In one unexpected twist, Zessica, whom I thought she was over when Mikage took over her body somehow managed to escape with Kagura, after Mikage neglected those two once he got control of the Solar Aquarion. Those two then joined Amata and fought Mikage until their union broke and that is when love took its place as the new power. Amata’s strong love towards the current Mikono (as opposed to Kagura’s “ancient love” towards “Sylvie”) gave birth to the new form of Aquarion, named Aquarion LOVE (inverted spelling of LOVE).

I’m not sure how did the word EVOL popped up because as far as I can remember it was the thing that came out of Amata’s mouth when he formed the union for the first time (I thought it was a short form for EVOLUTION). As far as I know the only person with he “reversal” element is Kagura, which is his other self that split by Mikage when his mother left him years ago. I thought by the time those two reunited again the real Amata would have both “flying” and “reversal” power but then I’m happy too that it didn’t happen, because I somehow hate the feeling of Mikono being shared by “2 man” even if it’s one body.

The return of the “Big Bangs” though I’m quite disappointed that there was no detailed explanation for this other than speculating “Kagura helped reversing the  genderbending process”.

For some reason I don’t really think that Amata was the reincarnation of Apollonius the winged dawg (at least until the time Kagura split from him) because I think the real reincarnation of Appolonius was Kagura while Amata is just Amata who loves Mikono and not Sylvie. One thing I’d love to tell myself is Kagura has learned from Amata’s example that there is no use to pursue ancient love as what important is o accept the present (instead of accepting ‘fate’ or ‘destiny’). Amata fought for it and he got Mikono, and for Kagura I’d suggest him to go for Zessica (after all Zessica loves Amata too and Kagura in a sense, is also Amata, albeit the ‘dark-sided’ one).

Happy ending.

I guess the most interesting about this series is the amount of romance between the characters, particularly the Amata x Mikono, Andy x Mix and Jin x Yunoha. It’s a pity that Jin died too soon that I seriously wished somebody with “resurrection” element did exist in the series though it was impossible in every bit. Now that the threat on Earth is gone love (particularly in the academy) is once again permitted… but I’m more interested in who’d be the chairman’s partner?

The return of the hero(es) though I wonder what took them so long? :P

With both of my favourite series ended at the same time I’m happy although to be honest I still want more despite the Aquarion EVOL aired for 26 episodes (though it makes sense for the 12-episode only Tasogare Otome x Amnesia). This is one of the rare times I feel the series really ‘finished’ and didn’t raise any question and answered most of it (I said most because there might be some that I missed but for now I’m satisfied). Yes, all series should end like this, because I watch something to entertain myself, not to think about what will happen in the end (talking about stories with cliffhanger ending).

[Review] Tasogare Otome x Oppai ep. 11

[Hadena] Tasogare Otome x Amnesia - 11 [720p][C8783005].mkv_snapshot_23.45_[2012.06.18_19.18.08]

This episode was a mixed of happy and sad. Although it was more on the happy sad I was quite disturbed with what happened to Yuuko at the end of the episode. Keep reading if you don’t mind to know more (don’t worry, this is not a trollpost).

After experiencing Yuuko’s death Teiichi finally regained his consciousness and Yuuko was looking after him all the time. However it was strange that Yuuko didn’t remember anything happened before that and Teiichi believed Yuuko once again have cast away her memories. Him touching her shortly after that resulting in Yuuko’s inability to see him again, as if he was the one who is a ghost.

It can be said that with Teiichi is now having Yuuko’s memories from when she was alive, he became part of the painful memories Yuuko wanted to throw away thus she could no longer see him, but Teiichi could still see and hear her as usual. Teiichi at first wanted to give up on her and hoped that forgetting him might be the best for her but then Kirie who has always been supporting him in his relationship with Yuuko got really mad at him as giving up would mean “wasting her efforts” in rooting for them too. After that for a while both Teeichi and Yuuko discovered a way to keep communicating with each other, which was through exchanging notes.

Fast forward a bit, Teiichi met Kirie’s grandmother (who is also Yuuko’s little sister) for the first time, and learned that she was also able to see Yuuko but in her scary form, which was most likely the “shadow Yuuko”. From there it was revealed to Teiichi that the “Asa-chan” Yuuko was protecting back then is his grandmother and this revelation lead him to confessing his feelings to the “shadow Yuuko too. Being accepted by Teiichi the “shadow Yuuko” then ‘merged’ into the “nice Yuuko” and become one with ‘their’ (her) memories returned and intact.

The ‘happy’ fun about this episode was those who murdered Yuuko back then were scared to death from her ghost while she being sacrificed instead of “Asa-chan” allowed Asa to live on. Yuuko was happy that although she was sacrificed at least with “Asa-chan” lived she is now able to meet Teiichi. Now my only concern is what is happening to Yuuko now with the “bell’bracelet” (whatever that thing was called) suddenly fell off from her wrist, as if it passed through air. Could this be the sign that now she had accepted her death and found happiness the time has come for her to go?

[Review] Being ghost is even more suffering (Tasogare Otome x Oppai ep. 10)

Of despair, fear, loneliness and resentment

Loss Maiden Mystery

Do you remember the end of the last week’s episode where Teiichi touched the other (evil) Yuuko? He briefly saw or sensed Yuuko’s memories when she was alive. In fact in this episode he was ‘inside’ Yuuko most of the time experiencing everything Yuuko had back then.

The episode started happy and happier (see the snapshots above) but then we were presented with the truth behind her death. Yes, she was indeed sacrificed and I have explained what I suspected in my previous reviews. I was right and this episode only serves to add more stuff that I did not cover.

Here we got to see the young Kirie’s grandmother, Yukariko who is also Yuuko’s little sister (don’t you think Kirie really resembles her?). They do love each other but there are times they’d come into disagreements and start hitting each other (because they care for each other a lot). Yuuko was quite emotional when she was alive and I guess she recently started to show such trait again since she starts “going out” with Teiichi.

It was towards her death that Yuuko had her personality split, probably from the despair, fear and loneliness (as well as resentment) she was facing. I’m not sure about Yukariko though whether she did search for her big sister or not or maybe she did but given the fact that it would be against the villagers to do that so it’s fair to say that she couldn’t do anything to save her. Overall this was a very sad episode and deep in my heart I was enraged from what the villagers did to Yuuko-san.

[Review] Tasogare Otome x Oppai ep. 09

Yesterday I’ve written about the jealousy-themed episode 09 of NazoKano. In Tasogare Otome x Amnesia this week the amount of jealousy isn’t less if compared to NazoKano. I could even say it was far more intense as it has started in at least 2 episodes ago.

If you have followed this show closely you will realize how Yuuko-san may exhibit signs of jealousy whenever Teiichi gets close to other girls. I could say episode 08 last week was the peak of it to the point that she forgot everything she knew about Teiichi. Although she seemed to have recovered her memories (her memories after death) turned out that it was only a fraction of it. She doesn’t remember about the time she spent with Teiichi (and Kirie), such as the time she told Teiichi about the cursed rock.

Both Teiichi and Kirie noticed that Yuuko now is very much unlike herself. She is now more pushy, more selfish, more demanding and less considerate too. She seemed to uncontrollable emotions too, like how she hit Kirie while she was talking with Teiichi one morning and the other time she cried when Momoe ‘accidentally’ pushed her while she was about to feed an omelette roll to Teiichi.

Of course that was not the only problem they’re facing as “the other Yuuko” is still trying to get back to Yuuko. This “dark Yuuko” said she can no longer bear all the sufferings Yuuko pushed to her and decided to ‘merge’ with Yuuko so that she could feel happiness and Yuuko could share her pain too. Now it seems like Yuuko would not be able to escape anymore.

[Review] Tasogare Otome x Raep ep. 08

If in the past few weeks we’ve seen anime consecutively airing their mizugi episodes, now we’re witnessing raep episodes. It all started with Haiyore! Nyaruko-san ep. 07 last week, followed by NazoKano ep. 08 a few days ago and now in the latest episode of Tasogare Otome x Oppai. Yes, there were all raep, a raep that was not.

Before we go into details about the raep I must say that I knew it, there must be something wrong with Kirie, ever since she met the evil spirit (a supposedly “evil side” of Yuuko-san). I could say that she’s possessed by her that she could see her, in a similar way to Teiichi possessed by Yuuko-san. The word possess might be inappropriate here since both Kirie and Teiichi could see the evil spirit (and in the case of Kirie, she could see Yuuko-san either) so perhaps a better word to use here is ‘touched’ where any person that has come into ‘emotional’ contact with either Yuuko-san or her ‘shadow’ would be able to see them, though I still can’t explain why only Kirie is affected by the evil spirit the most (maybe it has something to do with jealousy?).

Now into the raep thing let us jump straight into the raep point. Teiichi finally convinced and decided to bring back Yuuko-san into being her old self, the one who knows him and always tease him. His method was easy, confessed to her and then raeped her.

Getting raeped feels good, eh?

At least the confession (and the raep) worked. Everything that it turned well in the end and Yuuko-san regained her memories but only the part where she knows about Teiichi, and returned the confession too.

With the thing between Yuuko-san and Teiichi settled now the only problem that remains is the thing between Kirie and the evil spirit. It seems like the evil spirit won’t rest easy so long that Yuuko-san is free. And she will keep using Kirie to go back to Yuuko-san.

[Review] Angry Ghost vs Angry Gods (Tasogare Otome x Oppai ep. 07)

I’ve been anticipating this episode because I was too eager to know what happened to Kirie in the last episode? However just like in episode 05, she seemed fine as if she haven’t seen anything. The fact that she saw the the “evil ghost” in episode 4 and this episode too didn’t seem to affect her much.

So the evil ghost does exist? Well, according to Kirie that ghost is Yuuko-san’s negative emotions that had manifested into its own form. So for now I can just assume that Kirie has not been possessed by evil ghost thus explained why she still looked fine.

Now I’m worried about Yuuko-san. If Kirie was right her memory loss could be the result of multiple personality disorder or something. The evil ghost is a Yuuko that remembers the past but had split from the original Yuuko, probably in her attempt to forget the awful memories in her life.

Even more disturbing is that she and Teiichi had come to a conclusion that she was a human sacrifice? (probably sacrificed for the “temple” found underground of the school?). It might can’t be helped if the people in that era believed that the construction of the school building on top of the temple site angered the gods and creating the epidemic that they had to sacrifice somebody to please the angry gods.

For the first time one episode of this show didn’t end positively although the previous ones always ended well. Even the ED was ‘different’ and have this ‘sad’ feeling without Yuuko-san in it. The worst part is she ‘unconsciously’ pushed Teiichi down the stairs and then forgot everything she ever knew about Teiichi!

I could say it’s as if Yuuko-san has been ‘possessed’ by her evil self. The problem now is with her felt in love for the first time in her ‘life’ she also felt jealousy. Jealousy itself is not necessarily a negative emotion but an uncontrolled one might be, and that would have amplified the negative emotions she hand in her ‘evil’ self that it managed to take control on her?

The mystery remains.

[Review] Yuuko-san x Yuuko-san (Tasogare Otome x Oppai ep. 06)

As a continuation episode from last week, it’s probably the day 2 of the school festival, and the club was still conducting their haunted house. They started to have a ‘decline’ in the number of visitors although they did receive a lot of them the day before. However it doesn’t mean they didn’t get any and they even got one special visitor who doesn’t seem to be scared at all.

That ‘special’ visitor is has something related to the word ‘revenge’ as explained last week. She is the new ‘enemy’, a “ghost stories killer”. She happened to hate ghosts, no, actually she doesn’t believe in ghosts but she hates people who believe in them and determined to ‘kill’ the source/root of the ghost stories, thus I granted her the moniker “ghost stories killer”.

That girl coincidentally goes with the name “Yuuko” and because of that she has been bullied (or just felt like she’s being bullied because of her name though might not necessarily the case). I think the real culprit here is that other students gone psycho due to overly obsessed with superstitious stuff and belived there was this “Redman” going to sacrifice somebody. Turned out that this “Redman” is just something “Yuuko” started herself in order to get rid of all ghost stories in the school, especially the “Yuuko-san” itself.

However her attempt finally backfired and a group of students convinced that “Redman” does exist and they chose to sacrifice “Yuuko” for that. I couldn’t believe they would go as far as killing her though. I mean if it wasn’t because of “Yuuko-san” arrived to save her she would have been killed by those psycho students. Actually “Yuuko-san” was a bit reluctant to help her at first but after hearing Teiichi’s words she agreed to lend her hand.

For the first time ever I have something to complain about this show, something really really bad. Somewhere between min 16:00 to 18:00 were wasted for utter nonsense, I mean WTF nearly a minute wasted when it was fine if it was only for 10 seconds?! Excuse me but the message of resentment were successfully conveyed within the first 5 seconds of that time range so the rest are just repetitiveness that I had to fast-forward that scene to skip the nonsense!

This is probably the worst episode in this series but it still have the comparable amount of sweetness as in the previous ones. Once again the ending involving Kirie turned to be very disturbing. It seems like the was another ghost in the school nobody yet to know, including Yuuko-san herself. Now I’m worried about Kirie…

[Review] Tasogare Otome x Oppai ep. 05

Aspiration Maiden

Before any of you wondering about “what happened to Kirie in the last episode?” let me tell you the 6 key terms to describe this week’s episode:

  1. School festival
  2. Haunted house
  3. Costume raep
  4. Nekomimi
  5. Maid cafe
  6. Envy/jealousy

I want her to tease me too, no, actually only me!

I was also anticipating the continuation from last week’s episode. I mean what happened to Kirie when she woke up and saw that “evil ghost”? What I saw in this episode is she looks just fine like nothing happened but the real answer is actually in this episode, not really hidden but might cost you some brain processing power to get to the answer.

So she wears the dark-colored one eh? :P

If anything the only fact that revealed in this episode is Kirie dislikes school festival. Maybe it’s just a pet peeve but she seems to be uncomfortable with the crowd (reminds me of Yozora from BokuTomo). However that won’t last long (keep reading to know why).

Ghost oppai. I don't mind even if she's a ghost.

The paranormal investigations club decided to have a haunted house as their school festival activity. Everything was fine except that they’re using “real ghost”! (Who else if not Yuuko-san?) :P Yuuko-san as usual always teasing Teiichi, completely unaware that it irritates Kirie who can see her too.

Costume-raeped. And if I'm not mistaken girls wearing dark blue panties has something to do with "dark personality", no?

Surprisingly the haunted house got many visitors despite it’s held in the club’s room (which is in the old building that anybody barely goes to). However while going back from getting “additional material” for the haunted house, Kirie was tricked and ‘forced’ into working as a waitress at the school festival maid cafe. It turned out to be a big hit and in a few few hours Kirie seemed to have become the school’s most popular girl, or rather just revealed herself to be the school’s top beauty.

Notice how cute, and how similar she is to Yuuko-san.

In the end Kirie’s sentiment towards the school festival changed a bit and she started to acknowledge her “beauty side” (and think that her image is not as bad as she always thought). However there’s one thing that disturbed her, which is the longhair wig she wear as part of the maid costume made her looks like Yuuko-san, which she only realized after she looked at herself in the mirror. It’s either she can’t accept the idea that people only saw her beauty because of Yuuko-san, someone who’s already dead, or she’s just jealous of her.

She looked at the mirror, she saw Yuuko-san.

When I said Kirie with long hair resembles Yuuko-san, I really mean it. Even Teiichi also mistook her as Yuuko-san at first glance. Well she’s her relative after all (Yuuko’s “granddaughter” to be precise) so it’s just natural for Kirie to look a bit like Yuuko-san (except for the chest part of course) :P

Demanding explanation; "Am I no better than that ghost?!"

Later, after hearing Teiichi’s words Kirie finally understand that she was wrong. She’s just envious of Yuuko-san that she created a bad image of her (the “evil ghost” was just her own scary side that despises Yuuko). Finally, for the first time she ‘touched’ Yuuko and both of them somewhat happy with the ‘touch’.

Finally getting along with her “granddaughter”.

In this episode I’m happy that Kirie and Yuuko-san finally getting along with each other. It’s not the type of “getting along” that most of you would think but more of acknowledging each others ‘existence’ (or in Yuuko-san’s case, ‘importance’). Whether they’ll communicate casually with each other (like Yuuko-san and Teiichi did) it is something we’ll see in the next episode.

"Grandmother" and "granddaughter"? In a sense, yes.

Now I’m a little worried about the next episode because there’s this mention about revenge. I hope it will turn out well like what have happened in all aired episodes so far. Anyway I’m highly satisfied with this anime so far and have the least complaint for it if compared to other anime in this season.

See you next week!

[Review] Being ghost is suffering (Tasogare Otome x Amnesia ep. 03)

Remember the other girl in the paranormal investigation club in the first episode? Other than Momoe there’s this one girl with ‘cold’ appearance and she is what I’m talking (or going to talk) about. Just like the last episode, this episode 03 also acts like another prequel, which is to introduce us to the 3rd member of the paranormal investigation club (or the 4th member if we count the “club president” too). :P

One day Teiichi received a “love letter” in his shoe locker. Probably excited from receiving such letter he seemed completely forgot about going to meet Yuuko at the club room but went to meet the sender instead. He met the sender, only to get warned about being possessed/followed by an evil spirit (or evil ghost). Teiichi didn’t really believe her but the girl’s statement already made what he believed shaking.

The girl introduced herself as Kirie Kanoe. Yes, she is technically “Yuuko’s granddaughter” for Yuuko is her grandmother’s late sister. She seems to be able to see Yuuko but instead of being a cute girl like the one she saw in her grandmother’s album, Yuuko appears to be a scary walking corpse to her.

That is what led her to believe that Yuuko is an evil spirit so she tries to save Teeichi from ‘it’. This is when one’s perception towards Yuuko plays an important role. People who doesn’t aware of her existence can’t see her but Kirie, her “grandchild” sees her as a scary ghost. This made Teiichi changed his perception for a while but quickly he overcame his fear and began to see Yuuko in the form he originally saw again.

The truth is what Kirie had seen back then probably is not Yuuko but some other, “real” evil spirit. It’s not impossible though because if “good” ghost like Yuuko can exist why not the “evil” one too, right? Following that logic and having decided to solve the mystery Kirie became the latest member of the paranormal investigation club.

After 3 episodes I’ve come to realize that what I really like about this series is no matter what they still managed to put humor elements inside, effectively made me laugh. Now I wouldn’t mind to recommend this series to other people because it is not only about mystery but the funny moments are worth watching too. One only need to be compatible with the amount of ecchi elements inside though (of which I don’t have any problem with) :P

[Review] A certain non-scary oppailicious ghost (Tasogare Otome x Amnesia ep. 02)

What this episode is all about:

This is a prequel episode, about how Yuuko and Teiichi meet each other. Since the very beginning, Yuuko seems to ‘love’ Teiichi, I mean she loves teasing him a lot, sometimes ‘sexually’. There’s even one time when she said it’s ok to look at her naked ‘ghost’ body because it’s not her ‘real’ body, implying that is ok to take a good look (also implying that it may not how she looked like when she was alive). Not only that’s she isn’t wearing a bra, and THE BEST part about it is she changed her uniform right in front of Teiichi!!

One thing I noticed here though is what I’d call a little inconsistency. AFAIK Teiichi isn’t scared of ghosts but in this scene here looks like he does. Well maybe in the beginning when the first time he met Yuuko but not anymore after sometime. It’s more like he eventually got used to it but this is different from what I’ve heard about him all these times.

Then it was revealed that what might have happened to Yuuko back then. It seems like some accident left her trapped and she was never rescued (she was probably trapped until death), though the stories were probably just embellishments of what really happened. in other words, she might really have been murdered.

Now I have a few questions arise from watching this episode:

  1. Can I raep a ghost?
  2. Is it possible for ghosts to appear in cute 2D girl form? I mean, laws of physics don’t apply to ghosts, right?
  3. As a ghost, can you still lose your virginity?

Got the answer? :P
