{Review} Nyaruko-san ω ep. 01

Finally the day has come for me to write a review of the second season of this show. Considering that the first season was aired exactly one year ago (in last year’s spring anime season to be exact) that was quite fast. This has been one of my most awaited second seasons, which includes Haganai and Oreimo.

As usual this shows tend to feature parodies with references to older shows which is one of its main strength. In this episode Nyaruko was close enough “to get Mahiro to impregnate her” though it didn’t happen in the end (for an obvious reason). It’s still funny like hell and it was the first time I saw Mahiro hit those three aliens at once because in the first season it has always been Nyaruko alone (of which she deserved it).

I hope this show won’t end up trolling in the final episode just like Haganai did. I mean I have waited for it for a year so they better don’t screw up. I am expecting Mahiro to open himself more towards Nyaruko or at least make this more like a romantic comedy than just comedy. After all they have kissed at least once right?

I’ll leave the review for Red Data Girl and Dansai Bunri no Crime Edge for next week, probably after the episode o2 of both shows aired. Those shows require me to have deeper understanding about their backgrounds before I could write a proper review. It might take a while before I could return to my older episodic-blogging style but for now I’ll settle with writing reviews this way to help me reduce the possibility of getting headache.

As were already shifting to the next anime season (summer 2012) today I witnessed an ending of yet another anime in my priority list. Haiyore Nyaruko-san, as you know it is an anime that is funny (though may look shit to some people) but I enjoyed every bit of it, and as far as I can remember I had no complain about it. It may not contain much when it comes to plot but I’d give it a 9/10 for how it developed the bond between Nyaruko and Mahiro that seemed impossible at first.

This episode is the continuation from the last week’s where Mahiro found the world around him was dead silent as if everybody has been raptured and was the only one left. At first he thought it was a prank pulled by Nyaruko after she’s capable of imposing a ‘barrier’ that would have a similar situation to the one Mahiro is in right now. Then Mahiro decided to take a stroll and that is when the feeling of intense loneliness struck his heart.

After that the first thing that Mahiro did was going to his school and looking for Nyaruko & co. everywhere he could think of where they might be. However each search turned out disappointing and that is when Mahiro thought how he missed everybody and he wanted to see them again so bad. Then he kept walking and walking to every possible place he could go, and even until the night arrived he still couldn’t find them.

The next thing happened was Mahiro was assaulted by the alien I forgot the name of that thing (the same type of alien that attacked him in the first episode). Luckily he had Nyaruko’s “magic mirror” which he confiscated from her before (because he deemed it as dangerous) and used it to defeat the monster. At the same time Ghutatan approached him and he learned that Ghutatan was somewhat behind everything that happened, and the truth is Ghutata was being used by her ‘butler’.

Turned out that Ghutata’s ‘butler’ was upset with Mahiro because Mahiro was unlike everything that he expected before (he thought Mahiro was a more “eroge-maniac” than Nyaruko). Anyway thanks to Mahiro using the “magic mirror” earleir Nyaruko was able to locate him and arrived in time to save Mahiro and Ghutatan. Then the fight between Nyaruko, Cthuko and Hasuta against Ghutatan’s ‘butler’ began but the battle was proven to be hard even for those three.

The wind of the battle however started to blow towards them after Mahiro’s mother and Luhy arrived to assist them. However at one point Nyaruko was caught but right when she was about to get killed Mahiro threw her weapon (the red crowbar) at her and she managed to use it to escape and defeat Ghutata’s ‘butler’. The battle ended with everybody still in in one piece but for Mahiro, it seemed that a new term in his life has just began.

I must say that one of the main reason I watched this show was because I’ve been waiting for a proper anime for 2010′s Haiyoure! Nyaruani (the short flash anime, if you can remember it). I don’t care about moe because for me this show is not about moe but the strong vanilla flavour that is impossible for me to resist, similar to what I felt with Tasogare Otome x Amnesia and Aquarion EVOL. If possible I’d like to watch more but then I don’t mind with it ended here either. I hope you enjoyed it too.

 

[Review] Loli nyaa~!! (Haiyore! Nyaruko-san ep. 11)

Of babysitting and loneliness

Here comes a loli, and there’s a high chance that she might be a mahou shoujo.

This is not a continuation from the last week’s episode, if you’re talking about a plot continuation or something, simply because no such thing exists. This is an entirely new story with a certain light-blue-haired loli suddenly arrived at Mahiro’s house while he was depressed, craving for a quiet, peaceful Sunday morning as any high school kids would do. Of course his depression were contributed by Nyaruko, Cthuko and Hasuta were gaming in his room although they could do it elsewhere in the house.

So the loli (Ghutatan) was a lost ‘deity’ kid who Mahiro’s mother bumped into while she was on her journey in an unknown place with her professor. She asked Mahiro to take care of the loli and at the same time asked Nyaruko contact the space police about it. At first Mahiro thought taking care a kid might cause him a problem but the real troublemakers are actually Nyaruko and co.

Of course Nyaruko offered her help and half of it was driven by her desire to increase her ‘points’ but as soon as troubles occurred Mahiro “threw” them out and asked them to never come back again until he finished cleaning up the mess they caused. Only after that that Mahiro started to notice that Ghutatan is actually pretty easy to handle and she also has grown attached to Mahiro to the point that look like a brother and a sister. Misunderstood of what happened between those two Nyaruko & co. chased him and Mahiro took Ghutatan along with him while on the run.

Too bad though while he and Ghutatan was running away from Nyaruko, Mahiro were ‘greeted’ by two monsters. Then the chaser turned into rescuer, where Nyaruko, Cthuko and Hasuta using their power defeated those monsters together. However due to the ‘intense’ fight Ghutatan was slightly injured but even that was enough to make Mahiro got really mad at Nyaruko and co to the point that they didn’t go home that night.

Strange things happened the next day though where Mahiro found himself waking up but it’s still Sunday. Even weirder is his surrounding was awfully quiet as of he was the only person left in the world. What on Earth has happened and what happened to everybody else, or rather does Mahiro still in this world?

[Review] Kiss nyaa~!! (Haiyore! Nyaruko-san ep. 10)

Let’s nyaa… I mean let’s jump straight to the end, where Mahiro got his body back and so did Nyaruko. However it was not just getting each other’s body back but also saving the earth in the process. How is that possible? Read on.

Remember in the last week’s episode where this one alien of the Yith race named Isuka came from the future and possessed Kurei’s body to fight the ‘extremists’?  Turned out that it was just a plot planned by a certain space government official to mask his plan to destroy the earth. To him the earth is the source of grotesque materials that would taint the mind of the ‘space’ younger generations thus he intended erase the earth for good.

 

According to Isuka in the future the earth does not exist anymore due to it being destroyed by the space federation, something that is related to the above statement. Perhaps with Nyaruko already destroyed the device that is going to be used to destroy the earth so we can say the earth is safe for now, though the process of saving the earth did involve what is shown in the above snapshot. It’s not a bad thing though and at least thanks to that the earth is saved :P

Of mahou shoujo and fapproval

(The ‘article’ below may contain spoilers, trolls and flames. Inaccuracies are intended and guaranteed. Read at your own risk.)

What would make a crazy show like this become crazier? Add a mahou shoujo out of nowhere of course! Yes Luhy has somehow turned into a mahou shoujo and I’ll explain the details later but for now let’s focus on Mahiro and Nyaruko’s everyday life.

Remember in episode 03 where Nyaro (Nyaruko’s big brother) killed all the gods who guard the Dreamland? The Dreamland is actually the realm deeper than dreams where humans are connected to each other. Apparently some extremists from a certain alien race are interested to penetrate the now unguarded Dreamland in order to posses all human being.

One day while going back from shopping they were ‘attacked’ by Kurei who was possessed by one of the aline race mentioned above. Her intention was good, which is to protect the earth from those extremists but to do that she intended to use Nyaruko’s body though it was unnecessary in the first place as she could have just asked Nyaruko directly in the first place (apparently she wasn’t smart enough to think about that). The ‘attack’ was missed and as a result Nyaruko and Mahiro had their bodies swapped instead (and you can imagine everything that could happen after that, including the dirty ones).

So what does the magical girl Luhy has to do with that incident? None actually but I could say she wished for a job, formed a contract with QuarterBack and got the job she wished (which is to defeat ‘bad’ deities for the kids). On the other hand Nyaruko and Mahiro are still in the wrong body and Nyaruko took advantage of the situation to declare Mahiro’s love for Nyaruko… Let’s nyaa~!!

[Review] Raep Nyaa~!! (Haiyore! Nyaruko-san ep. 08)

Welcome to the game!


I thought last week was the last beach episode for this show but turned out that it’s this week (assuming that next week they’ll return home). The episode preview last week did well in misleading me that they’d return to school while Luhy would become a teacher or school nurse there. I’m not complaining though.

This show, if not great in story and characters, excels in something else. Not only it featured  3 mizugi episodes, this episode would also make the 2nd raep episode. In this episode both Mahiro and Nyaruko got raeped.

Nyaruko got raeped first.

The truth behind the raep was they all got sucked into a dating sim world where in order to escape both Mahiro and Nyaruko must either raep or get raeped. Of course Mahiro would avoid that at all cost while Nyaruko would raep him at all cost too. However Nyaruko got raeped by Cthuko while Mahiro got raeped by the most unexpected person, Kurei.

And Kurei got to raep Mahiro while those three were fighting each other.

Of course they didn’t go straight to the raep event without undergone other process too. Just like in any dating sim you could imagine there were several ‘events’ or flags need to be set up. Even more special, the ‘events’ in the dating sim they’re in have this ‘de javu” feeling with them (if you know what I mean).

Feel like have seen this somewhere before?

After the raep the last step to escape from the dating sim world was for raep victim to kiss each other. At that point Mahiro had no other choice but to kiss Nyaruko. After all he already got raeped so there’s no point in refusing anymore, right?

Then all of them finally returned to the real world with no memories about the dating sim world, except for Mahiro. Not sure how he could retain his memories but there’s also a chance that Nyaruko also retained her memories as well but pretended that she didn’t. Well, if being raped or the kissing made Mahiro remembered all that then the same could be true to Nyaruko too.

[Review] Pregnant Nyaa~!! (Haiyore! Nyaruko-san ep. 07)

A picture worth a thousand words, or rather a picture within a picture worth a million words?

To sum it up, this is the 3rd mizugi episode and next week will return us to sukumizu again, making a total of at least 4 mizugi episodes for this show! Of course that sounds like a good thing to me. On a more serious note I wouldn’t mind if the fanservice keeps up at this rate as long as there are stories to follow and the story doesn’t feel like poorly planned (like Shitty Crown).

So in this episode nothing happened between Mahiro and Nyaruko in the end. It isn’t really a bad thing it would be a little nice to if ‘something’ really did happen :P However thanks to Nyaruko everybody ended up believed that that ‘something’ happened and that Nyaruko is now carrying Mahiro’s baby :P

The worst (or perhaps the best) part is Nyaruko has finally got an approval from Mahiro’s mother to date him after she was excited about expecting a grandchildren. Whether this was Nyaruko’s ‘evil’ plot or just turned out like that I’m OK with it :P Now it’s up to Mahiro to deal with the rest.

Despite his mother’s approval Mahiro is actually still reluctant to accept the idea that Nyaruko is going to be with him (or to be his ‘wife’). At one point he said something ‘harsh’ to Nyaruko but then his mother asked him to fix what he has done. In the end he and Nyaruko went to a summer festival and Nyaruko once again confessed her love on their way back.

That said, I must say this episode ended pretty sweetly. Even the ‘vanilla’ flavor somehow feels stronger than before.

[Review] Let’s make babies nyaa~!! (Haiyore! Nyaruko-san ep. 06)

Cthuko Touwa or Erio Cthuko?


Sorry for the “sexually-sounding” title above. Actually  I wanted to say sorry that you will not find any picture depicting the baby making process in this post. However the “baby making” is indeed what this review is all about (well, only half of it actually).

Continuing from last week, Nyaruko and Cthuko are now engaged in a battle. Mahiro and Hasuta are now reunited with Nyaruko but to advance further they’d have to defeat Cthuko first. It’s worth mentioning that Cthuko is not easy to defeat.

The only way fo Nyaruko to defeat Cthuko is to ‘transform’. However she prefer not to transform unless there’s no other choice. Thank goodness she got some tricks and managed to defeat Cthuko in one kick, consequently forced her to reveal the reason she helped in ‘kidnapping’ Mahiro’s mother.

Turned out that the real reason behind the ‘kidnapping’ was to seek help from Mahiro’s mother in completing the “space’s ultimate gaming console”. Luhy Jistone, the woman who was in charge of the development saw Mahiro’s mother as the perfect person to help in the development but then got her ‘request’ turned down. To make it’s worse even the company she’s working in also canceled the project right away.

Unable to accept defeat, that Luhy woman activated the unfinished console and resulting in some ‘monsters’ playing the game in their heads. Luckily with the fork-throwing technique by Mahiro’s mother, the problem quickly solved. Finally the machine was ‘reluctantly’ destroyed by Cthuko.

Next thing that happened is Hasuta left the Earth, only to return as yet another transfer student at Mahiro’s school, and went by the name Hasuta yasaka (implying that he’s also Mahiro’s relative). Then all of them went to a hotspring near a beach and something very very interesting happened there. Not really sure what happened but it’s either Nyaruko has successfully made babies with Mahiro, or the next episode will prove that nothing happened.

[Combined review] Let’s nyaa~!! ep. 05 and Hyouka ep. 03

It’s been a few weeks since I last wrote a combined review. Previously I wrote combined reviews because I had little time to spend on blogging. However this one is not because I have not enough time but because there ain’t any awesome snapshots I could extract from Hyouka ep. 03, thus think it would be a ‘waste’ if I made a standalone review for it. Yeah I know Hyouka has moe characters but it doesn’t mean they’d always make awesome snapshots, and I don’t want to make ‘empty’ review (a review without snapshots) so the least I could do for it is to combine it with other anime.

Although Hyouka ep. 03 was aired before Nyaruko ep. 05, I prioritize the one with snapshots. Haiyoru Nyaruko-san this week introduced us with the glasses woman we saw driving a DeLorean last week. No thanks to the conversation Mahiro, Hasuta and the other 2 had in this one restaurant, that woman tailed them to the house and then ‘kidnapped’ Mahiro’s mother.

In a sense it’s not really a kidnap because after that glasses woman whispered something to her she agreed to follow that woman. Even worse that woman also whispered something to Cthuko as well that she also sided with her. Nyaruko alone couldn’t save Mahiro’s mother now that she opposes Cthuko although she could have defeated her if she was serious like when she met her at the R’lyeh island last time.

I think Mahiro’s mother could have defeated her ‘kidnapper’ if she wanted to but since she agreed to follow her so she didn’t show any resistance. Determined to save her mother despite she agreed to follow the ‘kidnapper’, Mahiro, Nyaruko and Hasuta went to the sunken R’lyeh island after Nyaruko got a clearance from her boss to deal with Cthuko herself.

From Nyaruko’s boss, there seems to be a conspiracy involving the internal Cthulu officials behind what had happened thus she had to deal with it herself first. Too bad while on their way to the island their vehicle got attacked by the Dagon couple. As a result Mahiro and Hasuta got separated from Nyaruko while Nyaruko is now have to face Cthuko, alone.

That’s all I can say about Nyaruko so far. Moving to Hyouka ep. 03, we’re brought to Houtarou and Chitanda having a ‘date’ (continuing from last week’s episode). Now it is revealed the reason Chitanda so enthusiastic about solving mysteries. It’s about to remember what her uncle told her about the classics club and her uncle was a member on the club too when he attended the school back then.

Apparently Chitada want to seek help from Houtarou to make her remember again. Although it might be not nice to turn a girl’s request down but I was kinda happy when Houtaru did just that because I always think that he needs to be firm too sometimes. However after hearing more from Chitanda he eventually agreed to help her ‘indirectly’.

The next thing happened is the club searching for the back issues anthologies the club had produced in the past. From his sister’s letter, Houtarou learned where the old issues were kept. However it took them to solve another mystery to get it back. Even so, with them got the back issues, another mystery was revealed; the first issue is the only one missing!

[Review] DAGA OTOKO NYAA~!!! (Haiyore! Nyaruko-san ep. 04)

Since I’m too lazy to write a ‘proper’ review today so I’ll just let the pics and captions explain everything for you. Maybe I’ll write a proper review later, provide that my laziness is cured. 10 keywords best described this week’s episode:

Don't fall into the trap.

OK I lied; actually I do have a few things to write about this awesome episode. It’s just that I have too many awesome snapshots I could resist the temptation to share them with you. Actually there are more but considering not all of us enjoy hi-speed internet so I just share the above.

So Mahiro’s mother has arrived and she saw something amazing happened in the house. Good thing she is a calm one and got to hear what happened between Mahiro and the two deity girls. Being a “part-time deity hunter” she quickly accepted the fact that those two are aliens, or deities to be precise.

Not only that Mahiro’s mother accepted almost everything about Nyaruko, such as her feelings towards her son and them living in the house. I did say ‘almost’ right? Well the only thing Mahiro’s mother didn’t accept was the idea of Nyaruko being her daughter-in-law because she wanted Mahiro to live a normal life :P

Well just like Nyaruko she’s not the type who easily give up on things. She even tried to cook something for her “mother-in-law” (Mahiro’s mother whom she already called “mother” too). Actually it struck my heart when I see her crying while begging Mahiro to allow her to cook.

In this episode we’re introduced with 2 other new characters. One being an oppailicious woman who resembles a genderbent Gendou Ikari, drives a DeLorean and seems to be on the bad side. The other one being a trap, the one I’m going to tell more about below.

Meet “Hasutaa” (Hastur, the wind deity or something), an acquaintance to both Nyaruko and Cthuko and seems to have some business on Earth. Because of his ‘work’ he is looking for “Yoriko Yasaka” (Mahiro’s mother!). Now what does Mahiro’s mother have to do with Hastur here?
