[Final Impression] NazoKano & Mouretsu Pirates

Showing respect even towards the enemy.

You don’t always see her smile.

Today I saw yet another ending for for two anime series, one is from the spring season and another one is carried from winter season. Yes, I’m talking about Nazo no Kanojyo X and Mouretsu Pirates respectively. Both ended in a way that is not bad though if I was the one in charge of Mouretsu Pirates I’d give it a bit different ending.

Dressing up to see her “future mother-in-law”?

For NazoKano ep. 13 (the series finale) the first half of the episode was about Tsubaki’s sister. One day Urabe bumped into her and then she invited Urabe for a talk at a café. They started talking about their crushes though the conversation was mostly weighed towards Tsubaki’s sister.

Tears of losing somebody…

Earlier Tsubaki arrived at home from school and found his sister fell asleep and drooling at the same time. Seeing her drooling reminded Tsubaki of Urabe and after she woke up Tsubaki asked her if she had a boyfriend but she didn’t answer it straight but told Tsubaki that it was a weird question.

She can smile after all.

So Tsubaki’s sister did have a boyfriend too back then but after they graduated from school both of them gradually lost contact. From the conversation I think Urabe might be thinking about Tsubaki might grew apart from her someday. I have no comment about their possible future but I’m hoping that they’ll be together forever.

The end.

The second half of the episode was about Urabe wanted to visit Tsubaki’s mother’s grave. Tsubaki was surprised that she dressed up as beautifully but then he learned that Urabe was doing that to ‘impress’ his mother. I’m pretty sure Tsubaki was proud at that time.

There might be no second season but I wish there will.

Oops I forgot to explain why Urabe shed her tears. Actually it was from exchanging droll with Tsubaki in order to experience what Tsubaki felt when he lost his mother back then, and at the same time to make Tsubaki remember about his mother. Then Urabe hinted that she’d want to become part of his family someday.

I guess this fits the definition of sexy too.

Mouretsu Pirates continued from last week with a battle against the “Pirate Hunter”, the Grand Cross. It was not an easy battle and it was a bit off Marika’s original plan too because they were facing not one but three Grand Crosses! However Marika with her quick decision-making managed to take control in the battle and even manage to board the main Grand Cross.

Marika suddenly become so sexy in this episode. I guess this is what they call “saving the best for the last”.

The bad thing about this ending was I prefer the bitch that ‘piloted’ the Grand Cross be captured and sentenced but too bad she got away in the end, escaped safe and sound from the self-destructed Grand Cross. That is what I said about “different ending” earlier.

Showing respect even towards the enemy.

Oh well Mouretsu Pirates was supposed to be a ‘happy’ anime so there’s no way we could see people got killed or something, although I’m still wondering what happened to those pirate ships that fell victim to Grand Cross in the past episodes. I remember in one episode one ship got blown into smithereens that I think there’s no way anybody would survive that attack. That’s enough reason to ‘kill’ that bitch (Grand Cross’ captain whatever her name was).

It’s sad that I had to say goodbye to Chiaki-chan (T_T)

One thing I learned today is there’ll be no second season for Mouretsu Pirates but an OVA/movie is confirmed. Well that’s OK considering that there’s not much to see in this series where it’s just a story that jumps from an arc to another arc. After all it was aired for 26 episodes so that is more than enough for a series that was planned to have only half of that episode number.

Oh BTW for some reason Shining Hearts: Shiawase no Pan finale didn’t air this week but I can wait for that. After all I ‘survived’ waiting for Madoka Magica’s finale so this is just a small matter to me. On the other hand the summer anime looks really interesting and seems to be having a lot of fap series too *drools*

[Review] NazoKano ep. 12 (and a little something about schoolgirl pirates ep. 25)

*wink* ;)

Of imitating and opening up

Raep

Remember the raep episode last week where Tsubaki got “reverse-raeped” but Hayakawa and Urabe? The after effect was so strong that whenever Tsubaki sees Urabe he would feel like he could see her through her clothes (nekkid). Oka was witnessing the raep however got raeped by Urabe because she was trying to imitate her  deadly scissors attack.

Tsubaki was able to control himself most of the time but right after he tasted Urabe’s drool the urge amplified and he instinctively hugged Urabe again but as usual (with exception of the raep episode in episode 08) Urabe escaped in an instant with exceptional agility. Almost like a reflex she paid it back by drawing her scissors (from her panties of course) and began attacking but something was not right. Her attack wasn’t accurate as it used to be, resulting in a slight cut on Tsubaki’s forehead.

Due to the amplified ‘urge’ this is what Tsubaki saw right after he tasted Urabe’s drool.

Feeling guilty of causing injury to Tsubaki, Urabe invited him to her house to treat the cut (her excuse for invitation was “if it didn’t get proper treatment it would leave a scar”). At Urabe’s house Tsubaki noticed that her pillow was a bit damp, properly from her sweating in her sleep. And then another accident happened where Tsubaki wanted to avoid landing on Urabe that he ended up having his forehead hit the corner of Urabe’s bed.

Before the second accident.

Then both of them learned something about what was wrong with them that day despite having lived their lives like usual. Turned out that it has something to do with Urabe’s dream that night, a dream that probably resulted from the thought of Tsubaki saw her nekkid body the other day. It was a H dream to be exact, too disturbing to her that her scissors attack became imperfect several times, and the effect even transferred to Tsubaki from her drool. However she discovered that after she hugged Tsubaki the effect was gone and her scissors attack turned fine again.

The second bunny I saw this week, after Sankarea.

Finally Urabe realized that hugging is not that bad and if anything it helped her to calm the effect from the H dream she had the other night. She even then took initiative to hug Tsubaki first during their next drool-giving ‘ritual/ceremony’ and said that it’s OK to hug her. She also realized that she was just as ecchi as Tsubaki, if not more.

Into Mouretsu Pirates ep. 25, it turned out to be the most interesting episode so far, thanks to numbers of Chiaki-chan’s cute moments as well as a close-up at Luca’s ass, in bikini. Since I’ve stopped writing a review for it for several weeks (honestly I can’t remember the last time I wrote one), I couldn’t come up with proper review so I just insert it here anyway. There’s only one episode left, an episode where the final battle against the pirate hunter will commence. I’ll write a review and final impression article for it but until then enjoy some of Chiaki-chan’s cute moments below in case you’ve missed it.

You don’t see this often.

*wink* ;)

[Review] Yuri Pirates (Mouretsu Pirates ep. 17)

I’ve skipped a few episodes since the last time I wrote a review for this show. Despite Chiaki-chan was (finally) there I felt a couple of earlier episodes weren’t awesome enough for me to write anything about them. I even slouched a couple of times while watching them (oh well I watched those at 2 am LOL)

This week’s episode has changed everything I’ve thought about this anime. First they (Chiaki-chan to be precise) finally made a statement that pirates don’t do crime but only to ‘entertain’ their clients. Yeah they were not to ‘plunder’ ships but only to give the audience the feeling of being plundered by pirates by making the attack as realistic as possible to a certain extent without causing any damage.

That was the good part until I saw the kissing scene between 2 girls….. For this to happen in a mainstream anime is very unexpected, I mean it was the “holy hell didn’t see this coming” moment for me. They can give us yuri why can’t some pantyshots as well or “at least” a mizugi/onsen episode? >:(

Now I’m waiting for this arc to over though it might mean the end of the show as well (I believe I was told it will last until the 26th episode IIRC). Considering how long they took to finish an arc it wouldn’t be surprising that this one could last up to 5 or 6 episodes. Oh well as long as Chiaki-chan is there I’ll bear with whatever this show going to serve me (even if it means watching yaoi moments too, assuming that it will be there).

[Review] (Nearly) abandoned anime – Mouretsu Pirates ep. 14

Everybody knows HorribleSubs is horrible. They are only using the subs from CrunchyTroll for the sake of pissing them off, thus explaining the no-karaoke for OP/ED (which means it’s not like they hate doing OP/ED karaoke, they just don’t know Japanese).

This post is not about mocking or insulting HorribleSubs, and it’s not about praising them either, despite how I’m going to emphasize their good points here. The fact is I still appreciate them as they’re the fastest (which is not a fair competition with other subbers as they’re just stealing from CrunchyTroll after all) and that’s one of their good points. Because they’re fast it’s fine to have them first while waiting for my favorite subbers to come up with their own works.

Another good point about HorribleSubs, which is the important point in this post is they can serve as a BENCHMARK on how worthy a series is. How is that possible? Keep reading.

If Horriblesubs is the only subbers left or still doing an anime series, there’s a high chance that the anime is abandoned (by all other subbers) or is worth abandoning/dropping.

If there’s no other subbers but only HorribleSubs picking up a new series, there’s a high chance that the series is not even worth following.

The above ‘benchmark’ is surely not absolute but it could serve as a good guide to picking the next anime you’re planning to watch. After all a subber’s approval rating is way more valuable than a fellow fan/viewer’s because subbers always got the thing first hand and we’re just like the end users who only enjoy other people’s works (the ‘afterwork’) without sweating ourselves like them.

I'm fine with you wearing that (in fact shorter is better) :P

Now into what this post actually about; let me tell you Mouretsu Pirates is one primary example of abandoned series (recently abandoned to be precise). It used to spark an interest in the anime fandom for featuring high school girl pirates in miniskirts while at the same time redefining ‘piracy’ into ‘entertainer’. It might have cute characters but now people seem to have lost interest in it. It might still can be saved if there was fanservice but the anime makers seem too determined to avoid that. Sure fanservice is not always necessary but in the event where people have lost their interest like this, it could be what the series needs. By the time of writing Mouretsu Pirates ep. 14 is already out. I watched it but didn’t pay much attention. I just skipped some scenes, fast-forwarded the rest and only stop at some interesting moment for the sake of taking snapshots before continuing again what I was doing before, and that continues until the 4th quarter of the series. So what happened at the 4th quarter that made me stop skipping scenes? Read until the end.

Even Marika agrees with me. What can you say anymore?

I wonder who’s really still watching it? Not sure about others but for me Mouretsu Pirates without Chiaki-chan is ‘boringness’, just like OreImo without Kuroneko :( If they couldn’t include fanservice they should have at least made Chiaki-chan to play a more important role than she already is, even if she wasn’t intended to drive the story like Kuroneko did with OreImo. One episode of her absence is fine but for 2 or more consecutive episodes is ‘torture’. Hey, if they could use different character design from the light novel then why couldn’t they use slightly different plot as well? They could still doing that without having to change the original setting. Thanks to that even most people I know already dropping it for the same/similar reason.

Oh Chiaki-chan! I've been missing you like forever!! But the wait is over now that you're here!!

Lucky that Chiaki-chan has finally made her comeback this time, and that was unexpected. Continuing from last week’s episode where Marika wanted to recruit new crews for Bentenmaru, this time she’s ‘forced’ to do that because all the key crews of Bentenmaru suddenly fell sick at the same time, thus need urgent replacements. After being turned down by potential candidates that she approached to, she ran into Chiaki-chan’s father whom then guided her to look for crews based on what she really needs from them. Though Chiaki-chan and her father didn’t directly suggested it, Marika got that the best crews she could get are her school friends from the space yacht club!

Uh, er, you've got it all wrong, Chiaki-chan (>_<)

OK... (and I'm sorry for whatever I've done than made you think that way)

That said the next week episode will be what this series is really about, which is the school girl pirates. I’m not going to spoil much here but right now I do miss the last week’s ED a lot, which I thought would be the new ED, but I was wrong then. Not that the current ED is bad but I was hoping for a change and I wished they could do it.

I'd never do that Chiaki-chan! (as if I'd ever leave you!) I promise!

See you too, Chiaki-chan! ♥

[Trollpost] Schoolgirl pirates show without Chiaki-chan is boring

How many weeks has it been without Hanazawa-san Chiaki-chan in Mouretsu Pirates? Yeah I know she’s just a smaller character than Marika but for a show where the anime makers are so determined to avoid fanservice (like no beach/bathroom/onsen episode and more importantly no pantyshot despite wearing miniskirt in zero gravity) I think Chiaki-chan is the only “fanservice” for me in this show. Not that it’s a big deal but… for a couple of weeks I must say this show is a bit boring since I didn’t get what actually happened in the Princess Gruielle arc (thus the absence of episode review since last week).

This week’s episode (ep. 13) feels a lot like a filler episode to me while waiting for the next arc to start, I guess. Princess Gruielle and her sister now goes to the same school as Marika and then this and that happened (I don’t bother to mention specifically what happened since I feel like nothing important there). The real deal will probably start next week where she will be ‘hiring’. Not sure she’ll be recruiting what, maybe new crews? By the way the ED 2 which was introduced in this episode sounds nice. One more thing is I want my Chiaki-chan back! Don’t replace her with Gruielle! I may like lolis but Chiaki-chan is Chiaki-chan and she is irreplaceable! Don’t put an end to her screentime!

For those who are wondering, the above pic is from the next week’s episode preview (no interesting snapshot from this week’s episode).

[Week in halfey.me] Shitty Crown ep. 20 & Schoolgirl Pirates ep. 10

More shits are revealed in this week’s episode of Guilty Crown. From last week’s episode we should already know that Haruka and Shuichiro are brother and sister. That was fine but I found another unnecessary thing happened in this latest episode where once again they have to rely on sex.

So this is Mana and Shuu's real mother.

That is not really a problem by itself but for a show that I expected to stand on its own by its seriousness it’s hard for me to accept that. Then we’re shown the historical connection between Shuichiro and Gai. However I don’t see any point in doing that anymore.

Although Gai seems to remember everything from before, it doesn’t make sense that he becomes evil now when he was once a hero. Not to mention Mana who once rejected Gai is now happily being reunited with him. The inconsistencies here has made all the characters’ previous actions seem pointless.

Moving on to your favorite pirates in miniskirts show, I’m delighted that we’re presented with the glory of Chiaki-chan in pirate costume. That maybe her first time acting as a captain because her father is still a captain of Barbarossa (she’s currently ‘disguising’ as Marika, acting as Bentenmaru’s temporary captain).

Now I know how she does her job as a captain.

The pursuit for the golden ghost ship continues as the crews ‘sailing’ through the raging “space storm”. It was quite an intense moment especially when I saw Bentenmaru firing direct hits at the enemy ships. Something wasn’t right though because the ‘enemy’ didn’t seem to try contacting or identifying Bentenmaru.

Oh BTW since this is not really an anime blog allow me to talk about something non-anime as well. We witnessed the announcement of “the new iPad” on Wednesday. Once again Apple’s “annual incremental upgrade to iGadgets plot” being staged on and we can expect something ugly to happen soon.

Week in halfey.me: Shitty Crown ep. 19 & Mouretsu Pirates ep. 09

Finally we got to see more Chiaki-chan this week after her absence in the last episode. Not much to talk about despite the growing political tension with the Serenity kingdom and stuff. Although things seemingly start to get serious with Bentenmaru is involved with matters in hand, I would not expect much considering there are only 4 episodes left, unless something unexpected happened in the production and this anime got extended number of episodes (like what Production ID did with Shitty Crown).

It seems like my speculation last week was half-true. Not sure if I got it right but Both Bentenmaru and Barbarossa are hired by the same client to hunt the golden ghost ship. However Chiaki said their order is “to eliminate whoever is getting in their way”.

Wait, what? Does this mean Bentenmaru and Barbarossa were hired to fight against each other? I hope I am wrong here but even if it’s true it seems like both parties are aware of this and things look like they are still in control. In the next journey Princess Gruielle will join Marika in the journey.

If not because of Inori I might have stopped watching this long time ago.

Into Shitty Crown. In the last week’s episode (which I didn’t have a chance to write a review although I wanted to) we’ve seen how evil-ish Gai is though this is just a sign of how inconsistent the story has become. I wonder if Gai was the evil from the start then what was the point in being good in the middle and fighting for freedom and rights, only to revert to being evil?

So this is Inori's "true form"?

No explanation could save it anymore at this point. Even Arisa has killed her own grandfather for the sake of getting close to Gai (although she already gave her virginity to an unworthy guy before). Even more weirder Inori with her ‘newfound power’ of manipulating the whatever crystal was seen confronting Gai face to face and she used her ability like an expert like she was trained long enough to use it. In the end Gai proved himself to be superior and managed to defeat Inori with ease and take her into possession.

Nice view of her new "easy to rape/f***" battle costume.

In episode 19 feels like the beginning of the series of ‘apology’ episodes. Many things I hoped to see is finally here. Shuu’s mother joined the rebellion team but not without revealing another unnecessary stuff that does not have anything to do with the story, that is she and Shuu is not blood related. This might explain why Shuu calling her Haruka-san but in Mouretsu Pirates it has proved that it does not take them to be non blood related for Marika to call her mother Ririka-san. Oh yeah did I mention Shuu’s mother and Shuichiro are siblings?

It’s a good thing that Shuu regained his “King’s Power”, thanks to the Void genome stolen by his mother. With that power he ‘compensated’ his lost right arm with the whatever crystal. He also could draw his own Void and finally managed to kill the clown Makoto, something he could have done earlier. Shuu was arrived at the right time by threatening Arisa to take him to where his mother is or else the power could have belonged to Ayase.

Anyway Shitty Crown is Shitty Crown. The only reason I still keep watching it is because I hope to see a good ending (and there’s Inori too). Other than that this show is just shitty that its only attraction now is the awesome music by supercell.

[Quick review] 姫と海賊 (Mouretsu Pirates ep. 08)

Not really in the mood to write something… well, not really. Actually I do have a mood to that but time is limited so I’ll just go for a quick review instead.

The title reads “The Princess and The Pirate” (Hime to Kaizoku) and yes this is the review for Mouretsu Pirates ep. 08. If you’ve watched the last episode you should know abotu this one ‘child’ sneaking into Bentenmaru. ‘Her’ motives were unclear.

Now she has revealed herself, a blonde loli princess named Gruielle Serenity. She seems to be associated (not really acquainted I must say) with the former captain, Marika’s father. Still at this point her motives are still unclear to me. It’s as if she’s just playing around, using her status to sneak into the ship as she please. Later there’s some sort of ‘conspiracy’ revealed but I don’t think it has anything to do with the princess boarding the ship without permission.

Hanazawa-san Chiaki-chan did not appear in this episode, which is a bit disappointing to me. I did mention about conspiracy earlier, right? I hope it’s not about Marika and Chiaki are to fight against each other. Well at least I know Bentenmaru and Barbarossa (the pirate lead by Chiaki’s father) are an alliance. However if I’m not mistaken both of them are also subject to client’s order, I mean they’re free to choose their clients. Let’s hope they’ll not pick 2 opposing clients, or even better let’s hope there are no opposing clients at all. To end this let me present you some of Marika’s ‘interesting reactions’ from the episode.

Uh! I ended up writing 250+ words after all (>_<)

[Quick update] They see me complainin’ they hatin’

With all the hates against piracy and how I stand up against it, I think it should be alright if I see Mouretsu Pirates in a different perspective too. After all I can’t always complaining all the time, right?

That depends on how you do piracy and how you define it girl.

So what’s this have to do with those schoolgirl pirates? Oh I think I finally get it. Correct me if I’m wrong but perhaps the ‘pirating’ job in Marika’s time is some sort of reality show. Their client is actually their ‘victim’, no?

Oh well I’m struggling hard to tell myself everything is good about this series and there’s no way those girls would do something evil. Even today the corporates are redefining ‘piracy’ as something evil so it would not be surprised if in the future ‘piracy’ will have a new meaning, a good meaning, that is if we won the war against those who want to censor our internet.

[Review] Sorry but a peace is not a peace if the pirates are still threatening and terrorizing around

This is not really a review for Mouretsu Pirates ep. 07 (The peace does not last) so you’ll find the lack of depth analysis, conspiracy theory or research here (not that I’ve done any of those before anyway).

After 7 episodes I still don’t get it. What’s really the point of pirating in this series actually? If what they’re doing isn’t crime then what is, I mean what is it they’re doing? Are they reinventing piracy or just redefining it? (giving a new meaning to piracy?)

If they’re not being a hero (there’s no war to fight in anymore to begin with) or not helping in anything with regards to peace, security and safety, what they’re doing is simply crime, if not terrorism. OK, ‘terrorism, might sound too extreme but in the even they made people feel terrorized, even if it’s only one people feels that way, it is still a terrorism. Also they’re fiddling with other ship’s safety/security system and I don’t know any other word to ‘politely’ describe that act other than crime.

Oh wow! She's got a make-up on now! (I'm not complaining on this part)

In the beginning of this episode Marika did mention the word ‘battle’. Seriously? Alright, they’re going to fight a battle, but what kind of battle? Who are their enemies? If they are the heroes then who are the bad guys? They can just set a target, and then ‘lawfully’ steal, rob and plunder as they please just because they carry this bullshit called letter of marque? I think I might have been able to accept it better if it was about treasure or bounty hunting (like attacking the ‘bad’ pirates) instead of ‘attacking’ other ships and take their valuables. Speaking of “taking valuables” refer back to episode 06. Aren’t they taking them by force? They even threaten people not to refuse. Again, that’s enough proof that they’re the criminals.

Too many questions? Don’t blame me. Blame this anime, or rather the novel. Later in this episode there’s a part where they mentioned about ‘jobs’. What kind of job? Oh maybe it’s a pirating job but who assigned the job? Oh maybe the pirate-supporting government but… the list goes on. They even mentioned about getting paid. I thought their income were from the stuff they forcefully took from pirating activities? No? Oh maybe all those valuables were given to the government and they received their pay for it but still wouldn’t that make their government the bigger pirate itself? For me a government that seek peace should not make itself look like the enemy. However that is what the government of the Morning Star is doing. England may once issued the letter of marque too in the past but once peace is achieved the ‘legal’ pirate system were automatically abolished.

Pirating is pretty much a celebrity work now that she has to put on make-up (this is not a complaint either).

Also there’s this mentioning about ‘client’. Who’s the client? Who can be the client? They can just attack anybody as long as there’s a client willing to pay them a good pay? I remember earlier in this series we’re told about the peace has been achieved for about 100 years. For only 1 planet that’s moderately populated that should be enough to phase out all the letter of marque handed out to the pirates during the war-time. *Sigh* I pity those non-pirate ships. It’s as if they’re doing shipments only to get pirated.

I’ll keep complaining until I get what on earth is this so-called piracy system of the Morning Star government. It can’t be helped, I like Marika and I can’t stand seeing character I like doing crimes. It’s more depressing than seeing my favorite characters die in battle.

Lucky today I found a “hidden gem” in this show. I didn’t realize it because my focus were always fixated at Hanazawa-san Chiaki-chan’s face (>_<)

The "hidden gem" (or treasure?) I'm talking about. That is, if you can find it. I won't tell you from which episode this is :P

I found it ridiculous though that there’s no pantyshot happens even once in the micro-gravity space with those girls in their miniskirts all the time. I know this is anime and it doesn’t have to comply with every laws of physics but there’s a limit on how much physics laws you can defy, even in anime! (>_<)

If only there were more of this... I might have ignored all the hateable stuff in this show (-_-)
